A bundled, performance-leaning metal compact with factory porting, direct-mounted ACRO P-2, and Floyd's Custom Shop upgrades.
The Smith & Wesson Spec Series VI M&P 9 M2.0 Metal Compact is aimed at shooters who don't want a buy-it-bare and upgrade-it-for-six-months project. This is a bundled, performance-leaning compact built around a metal frame, factory porting, a direct-mounted Aimpoint ACRO P-2, and Floyd's Custom Shop upgrades, plus a set of extras that round out the package.
For transparency: I bought this with my own money. No loaner, no sponsorship, and no incentive for a soft review. This is simply my perspective after putting it through real range time.
Pricing: this package sits around $1,899 MSRP, with real-world pricing varying depending on availability and who has it in stock.
At its core, this is an M&P 9 M2.0 Metal Compact in 9mm, built on an aluminum frame with a Champagne Cerakote finish and a matching ported slide. The barrel is 4 inches with a 1:10 twist and an Armornite finish, and the slide is cut and ported to match.
The headline feature is Smith & Wesson's quad in-line porting. The intent is straightforward: vent gas upward to reduce muzzle rise and help the gun track flatter during strings, without adding overall length like a traditional external comp.
This package ships with an Aimpoint ACRO P-2, and the slide is configured for a direct mount to the ACRO footprint, meaning you're not stacking a plate system under the optic. In theory, that means fewer parts, less tolerance stacking, and a lower-mounted optic that can improve presentation and reduce searching for the dot.
This matters because the ACRO is an outstanding optic, but it's also a taller design, so a lower, cleaner mount can make a noticeable difference in how fast you pick up the dot under speed.
The Spec Series VI includes Floyd's Custom Shop enhancements, notably the EDC magwell and baseplate setup. The point here is speed and consistency: a more forgiving reload funnel, cleaner mag insertion, and better repeatability when you're running reload reps under pressure.
A magwell is only worth it if it improves reload consistency without forcing a weird grip or turning the compact into something that prints like a brick. The EDC sizing is meant to live in that middle ground: helpful, but not ridiculous.
Because it's a Spec Series bundle, you also get additional gear like a Savior Equipment pistol bag and a Hunter Constantine carry belt, along with the Spec Series patch/coin/knife items depending on the package. I consider these nice adds, but they're not why you buy the pistol.
Porting that's repeatable. Porting can reduce muzzle rise, but it also increases blast and noise, and it can behave differently depending on ammo. So I'm not judging it on one slow shot. I'm looking for repeatable dot tracking in real strings.
The direct-mount ACRO advantage. A direct mount should help with presentation and reduce dot hunting, especially when you're moving fast. If it doesn't show up in use, then it's just an expensive idea.
Reload consistency with the magwell. The Floyd's magwell should make reloads more forgiving under speed and reduce fumbles. If it does that without negatively affecting the grip or balance, it's doing its job.
In actual use, the Spec Series VI feels like a cohesive system, not a random pile of premium parts. The porting provides a flatter tracking feel than a standard non-ported compact, and the direct-mounted ACRO contributes to a cleaner presentation and more predictable dot return. The Floyd's magwell helps reloads feel smoother and more consistent when you start pushing speed.
The tradeoffs are real: more blast and noise comes with porting, and this is a premium package that only makes sense if you want the complete setup (metal frame, porting, ACRO included, and the Floyd's enhancements).
The Spec Series VI makes the most sense for the shooter who wants a compact that's ready to run immediately, not a buy-it-basic and build-it-later plan. If your goal is a performance-leaning compact with a serious enclosed optic and purposeful upgrades already done, this package is built for that.
If you're just looking for a straightforward compact carry pistol with minimal blast and minimal cost, this is more gun than you need, and it's priced accordingly.
